Jeremy Berman: Listening, Leadership, and Real Solutions

Throughout this campaign, I’ve had the privilege of hearing directly from the people who know Westfield best — you. On doorsteps, in living rooms, on the fields, in coffee shops, and in our local businesses, you’ve shared your hopes, your ideas, and your determination to keep Westfield the extraordinary town we all love.

There’s so much that makes Westfield wonderful: our excellent schools, beautiful neighborhoods, vibrant downtown, strong sense of community, and proud historic character. This is a town with deep roots and bright possibilities. I believe in the power of this community, from how we support each other after storm waters hit our basements to celebrating our annual traditions like AddamsFest, Sweet Sounds Downtown, and the Tour de Westfield.

But even great communities and towns face challenges. I’ve seen firsthand and listened to what those are: traffic, parking, overdevelopment, public and road safety, aging infrastructure, and inadequate sports fields.

One thing is clear: Westfield residents care deeply about these issues and want to be heard. You want leadership that listens, shows up, and delivers with optimism and action. That is how I will lead.

I’ve heard your concerns, and I’ve brought forward real ideas and practical solution: implementing regular town halls, carrying along the theme of open engagement like our Town Talks; adaptive traffic control to ease congestion and new parking technology to make visiting downtown easier;improve road safety with stronger traffic law enforcement, speed reduction on county roads, as well as improved lighting, sidewalks, and crosswalks to make our streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists; education, enforcement, and advocacy for stronger state e-bike laws to mitigate against the dangers of unsafe ebike usage; supporting our first responders with the technology and tools they need to do their jobs and keep us safe, including providing financial support to the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad; championing small businesses downtown and across Westfield with streamlined permitting and approvals; supporting new opportunities such as a new sports bar and restaurant, reminiscent of the Jolly Trolley; investing in true athletic fields with proper irrigation, drainage, grading, and maintenance — not just grass lawns; and ensuring smart, responsible development that strengthens our town without overwhelming it or changing its character.

The challenges ahead may be complex, but we can tackle them together with civility, collaboration, and a shared commitment to what’s best for Westfield. That’s the leadership I offer. As your mayor, I’ll be accessible, responsive, and accountable — available full-time, attending community events; not just talking about process, but getting things done.

I’m ready to lead, bringing a fresh perspective and a collaborative approach that moves Westfield forward without compromising our town’s character or the voices of its residents. I would be honored to serve as your next mayor and to keep working for Westfield every single day.

Jeremy Berman,
Democratic Candidate for Mayor
