Dr. Robert H. Thompson III
Dr. Robert H. Thompson III, 72, passed away on July 9, 2025 in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. A devoted father, brother, veteran, and physician, “Bob” was known for his kind heart, service to others, and love of nature.
Born in New Jersey, Bob graduated from Westfield High School in 1971 and earned his M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine in 1978. He practiced internal medicine for 43 years across Ohio, the Virgin Islands, and New York, retiring from Open Door Family Medical Center in 2024. A proud veteran of the Army National Guard, he served two tours in Iraq and earned numerous commendations.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie and Robert IV; siblings Freida and Steven; extended family; and many friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Robert and Freida Thompson.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 25 from 4–8 p.m., and funeral services on Saturday, July 26 at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Fanwood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Save the Whales, 14040 Reservation Rd., Salinas, CA 93908.
