Why I’m Running for Town Council Representing Ward 1

I’m Reshma Adwar—experienced physical therapist and dietitian, dedicated mom of two amazing children, and proud Westfield neighbor. I’m running for Town Council in Ward 1 to lead with integrity, listen with intention, and help build a community where everyone feels at home.

Living in Westfield was a long-held dream since I was a teenager. In 2021, that dream became reality when my husband, Jon, and I moved here with our two children. Now my family and I are grateful to call Westfield home, appreciating the excellent schools, bustling downtown, and energetic community spirit. Our town is such a wonderful place due to the efforts of so many, and I look forward to carrying the torch forward.

My life has been shaped by change. At age 9, I moved with my family from New Jersey to India and returned when I was 15. This experience made me resilient in the face of challenges, excellent at building connections, and skilled at finding common ground.

My professional background is rooted in healthcare and advocacy. As a clinician, I’ve worked with hundreds of patients who have taught me that listening with empathy and being a true partner allows us to determine the best path forward. Today, I’m a Learning and Development Professional in the Health Sciences sector. I support the growth of future leaders and model how teamwork, open-mindedness, and collaboration are cornerstones to accomplishing great things.

Alongside my professional life, advocacy has always been important to me. I’ve met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and the New Jersey State Legislature to advocate for public health policies and used my expertise to educate them on how proposed legislation could affect constituents. One of my greatest achievements is supporting new moms by highlighting the need for lactation spaces on college campuses and the creation of two such spaces at Montclair State University. I will bring this same commitment to advocating for you as Councilwoman.

As a member of Town Council, I will champion priorities that keep Westfield thriving: supporting our vibrant downtown and public spaces that foster community, upholding fiscal responsibility and smart investments, and increasing pedestrian and public safety. Above all, I am committed to being a leader who listens openly, represents, reflects, and celebrates the richness of our town, and inspires future generations of leaders.

If you’d like to learn more about me or get in touch, please visit www.Adwarforcouncil.com.

Dr. Reshma Adwar, DPT, RDN
