The Thursday evening Brookside Park game saw St. Justin defeat St. George in a pitcher’s duel by a 5-3 score. Pete Chemidlin went the distance for the victors, with offensive support from Rob Stratton, Steve Seda, Eddie Fernandez and Mike McKenna. For the Georgie’s, veteran Mike Kozlowski pitched well in a losing effort. Brian Jackson, Eddie Gutierrez and Pat MacDonnell recorded multiple hits to lead the attack. St. Sebastian 20, St. Francis 5 St. Sebastian scored 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 20-5 victory over St. Francis. Leading the offense were Jason Wogksch with 5 RBI, BillAumenta with 4 RBI, and Wells Pikaart’s three hits and 3 RBI. Also stroking multiple hits for the winners were Jerry Isolda, Rei Santiago, Gary Leichtling, Nick Dominguez and Bruce Logan. For St. Francis lead-off hitter Walt Patrylo and Joe LoBrace each belted three hits, and Harold Hopler drove in three runs.
St. Ignatius 26, St. Wolfgang 9 St. Ignatius pounded 32 hits in route to a 26-9 victory over St. Sebastian at Jerseyland Park. Varoujan Baboomian drove in 5 runs, and Kevin Harris and Jeff Martinex had 4 hits apiece. Tom Swales, Karl Grossmann, Bernard Penoro, Captain Bob McGuiness and James Devlin all had three hits each to drive the winner’s offensive attack.
For the Wolfie’s, Ross Alpert led the way with three hits and three RBI, and Joe Gold, Kevin Morris, Artie Beyer, Jon Villegas, Jerod Pence and Rick Reichall all had multiple hits.
St. Vincent 25, St. Anthony 19 In a “football” score, first place St. Vincent held off a game St. Anthony team by a 25-19 score at Forest Road Park. The hits and runs never stopped, as the Vinnies cranked up 36 hits to Anthony’s 31 hits. Pacing the winners were Marty Bernstein with five hits and six RBI. Stroking four hits each were Dave Grandmaison, Rob Zerafa, Anthony Natale and Darly Palmieri. In addition, Mike Arabitg, John Tomasulo, Tim Barnes, Captain Keith Karyczak and Pat Nigro had multiple hits for the winners.
The Anthony attack was led by leadoff hitter Chris Millar and rookie Lee Diamond belting five hits apiece. Tony Perconte, Dave Merkel, Conor Golden and Captain Bob Camisa all pounded three hits in a losing effort.
St. Justin 18, St. Augustine 17 The Friday night Farley Park game saw St. Justin nip the new St. Augustine gang by one run, 18-17. For the winning Justin’s, Tim Loesch and Rob Stratton belted five hits each, and Mike McKenna, Ralph Marinello, Will Hillyer, Steve Seda, Pitcher Pete Chemdilin, Liam Nobile and Matt Marino all had multiple hits.
Coming up a bit short and leading St. Augie’s were John Greenblatt. Mike Surbrug, Gerry Russo, Mike D’Amato, Larry Trenk and Gerry Riepe with three hits each.
