SUMMITAREA–OnTuesday,June 2, at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Usman Shah, medical director of phase I trials, GI Oncology at Overlook Hospital in Summit will present “The Precision Revolution in Cancer,” reviewing the newest tools in cancer care and treatment.This advance in cancer treatment marks a fundamental shift in medicine: we have stopped treating cancer based solely on where it is (the organ) and started treating it based on what it is (the genetic mutation). In the past, two patients with lung cancer received the same “blunt force” chemotherapy. Today, they might receive entirely different treatments because their tumors have different genetic “drivers.” Dr. Shah will discuss the newest tools used to extend and save lives.
