Arthur Morgan
Art Morgan, 95, passed away on April 29, 2026, peacefully at his home with his family by his side.
Art was born in Yonkers, NY, on December 10, 1930, where he grew up and graduated from Gorton High School. During his senior year he decided to attend college so took night classes to earn the necessary credits. He enrolled at Iona University and majored in accounting. Afterwards he earned his CPA and went on to get an MBA from NYU. During his career he worked in accounting then internal auditing for ExxonMobil, HESS, ITT, and John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
After college, he joined the Army accounting corps and was stationed in Washington State. However, when his father unexpectedly passed, he returned to Yonkers to run the family business repairing used golf balls and selling them to driving ranges. After doing this for a number of years, he pursued his accounting/auditing profession.
He met Anne Hogh, forever his “Sweetie”, at a mutual friend’s wedding. They went on several dates and quickly developed a relationship. After a brief courtship, Art proposed and they were married on July 22, 1961. They were happily married for 64 years.
Art’s career started in accounting, but given his eagle eye for details, he moved into auditing. A job with Hess Oil prompted a move to Westfield, NJ in 1968, where he resided until his passing. Art also worked for ITT in their hotel auditing function, travelling extensively. Prior to retirement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc. He worked there for 11 years, retiring at age 65.
In retirement, Art dedicated himself to helping others. He volunteered for several organizations, driving patients to appointments, and supporting patients undergoing hospice care. Many families expressed their appreciation for how he much comfort he provided to their loved one’s last days.
Fortunately, he also found some time to play golf. He came from a golfing family – his father once owned a driving range and several uncles were scratch golfers – but he always prioritized family over golf while working. Upon retirement he was finally able to play a few times a week. Atrue highlight was him shooting an 83 at age 86 – a rare feat to shoot your age.
Art survived a heart attack at age 59. Despite other medical challenges, his Welsh and Irish luck helped him persevere on numerous occasions. He always maintained a positive attitude and continued to have a keen interest into family matters – kids, grandkids, cousins and others. Aside from his positive attitude, he was best known for his quick wit, sharp dressing, and fierce loyalty. He gave unconditional love to his family and was selfless. He was religious and steadfast in his commitment to the Catholic Church.
Art was predeceased by his father Arthur W. Morgan, Sr.; mother,Agnes Morgan (Spruck); sister Agnes Ritchie (Morgan); his lifelong best friend, Murray Lebowitz; and his daughter in-law, Emily Morgan (Taback).
Art is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne Morgan (Hogh); son Dan and wife Cindy; son James; son Chris; daughter Meredith Peterson and husband Steve; and grandchildren Katie Morgan, Matt Morgan (fiancé Morgan McDonough), Griff Morgan, Tyler Peterson and Sydney Peterson.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Lux, and his nursing staff Barbara, Ellie, and Mary; Marilia Lopes for her caring help; and Pavol Trencsenyi and Blazena Ondrusova, selfless aids who provided excellent care for Art until the very end.
