Friends of the Library Host 51st Annual Used Book Sale

WESTFIELD – The 51st Annual Used Book Sale will take place at the end ofApril at the Westfield Memorial Library, 550 East Broad Street in Westfield. A beloved community event, this sale provides the opportunity for folks to clean out overflowing bookshelves and purchase books for all ages at low prices, including special pricing for teachers, while supporting library programs. For students seeking community service hours and adults looking to contribute in a meaningful way we offer volunteer hours to help with the sale. Last year, over 25,000 books were donated by residents. With that kind of variety, there will be something for everyone. We will have books for infants, children, teens and adults; fiction and nonfiction; hardcovers and paperbacks; best-selling authors, classics, cookbooks, history, art, science, science fiction, biographies, sports, gardening, self-help and more. Plus, our prices are too low to pass up. Most books will range from $.50 to $3.00.

Book donations can be dropped off at the library on Wednesday, April 23 – 10 am – 2 pm; Thursday,April 24 – 10 am – 2 pm; Friday,April 25 – 10 am – 12 pm; Saturday, April 26 – 10 am – 1 pm. We can only accept books in good condition. We cannot accept textbooks, travel books before 2020, magazines, VHS tapes, or encyclopedias as we will not be able to use them.

Sale Days will be Wednesday,April 30 – 5 pm – 7 pm – Members Only Preview;Thursday, May – 10 am – 7 pm Teacher’s Discount Day; Friday, May 2 – 10 am – 4 pm Teacher’s Discount Day; Saturday, May 3 – 10 am – 4 pm Half Price Day; Sunday, May 4 – 1 pm – 3pm – Bag Dag (buy a bag for $10 and fill it up with books!).

All proceeds from the sale will support Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library sponsored programs such as the new Maker Space, Museum Passes, the Native Seed Library, Little Free Libraries, Books on Wheels, the Hale Speaker Series, scholarships for media science students and awards for volunteer service for high school senior residents, Lucky Day Books, and Saturday morning children’s programming.
