Lynn Whitney Silber

Lynn Whitney Silber

Lynn Whitney Silber, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at Inglemoor Rehabilitation Center in Livingston, NJ.

She was born on August 20, 1950, in Westfield, NJ, the daughter of Robert H. Silber and Ruth Bender Littlefield Silber. Lynn was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and great aunt to her family. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Vance Reed Littlefield Jr. She is survived by her sister, Lois Ann Littlefield Horner of Needham, MA (Andrew, deceased); her sister- in-law Jean B. Littlefield (Reed, deceased), her nephews Kenneth A. Horner (Kristi), Steven R. Littlefield (Kysa), Douglas M. Littlefield (Sheri), Steven A. Horner (LeeAnn), and her nieces Wende H. Malster (Rob) and Heather L. Phinney (Jason), along with 15 great nieces and nephews, four great, great nephews and one great, great niece.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, and in addition to being a 50-plus year member of their Choir, she was always helping in the office and in the Choir room with any administrative task that needed doing, she worked with several generations of Choir Directors as Choir Librarian, and she loved being asked to read Scripture during Sunday services. Her strong Christian faith guided her throughout her years, and her kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In her honor, the Choir Music Library is being renamed in Lynn’s memory.

Lynn retired in 2021 from Trader Joe’s where she served as a Crew Member in the Westfield store, and she would return to the store frequently to say hello to her wonderful colleagues. Prior to Trader Joe’s, Lynn spent many years working for Atlas Supply and RR Donnelley, each in Newark.

Lynn graduated in 1968 from Westfield High School and received her Medical Assistant certification in 1970 from Union County Technical Institute in Scotch Plains.

Lynn was a devoted customer over several decades at Vicki’s Diner in Westfield, and we are infinitely grateful for the owners and staff who always welcomed her warmly and took good care of her for many years. Egg white omelets, rye toast, baked tilapia, and chicken noodle soup were among her favorite items on the menu. Lynn loved to travel, and her refrigerator was covered with magnets from all the places she visited. She particularly loved visiting her dear friends, Charles Banks and Meg Smith, in North Carolina over Christmas; her sister, Lois, and niece, Wende, in the Boston area each year for her birthday; and her nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces in Texas.

Lynn was an avid fan of all sports, with a particular love for football and golf, and she could rattle off years’ worth of statistics for her favorite players and teams. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with anyone and everyone, and we have many fond memories of her string of wins playing Kings in the Corner and Rummikub.

To say that Lynn was devoted to her friends, her family, and the greater Westfield community would be an understatement. Unofficially dubbed “The Mayor of Westfield,” she could be seen walking around town daily, and saying hello to everyone along the way. We are more than confident that she was enthusiastically welcomed into Heaven with the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield on Saturday, April 18, at 10:30a.m.
