Alexander F. Smeaton, Jr.

Alexander F. Smeaton, Jr., age 93, formerly of Westfield, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Born on January 10, 1932, in Spring Lake, New Jersey, to Elizabeth and Alexander F. Smeaton, Sr., he graduated from Manasquan High School and joined the U.S. Navy, serving four years in during the Korean War. Alexander graduated from Newark College of Engineering in 1961 and was an engineer with Western Electric Company and later with AT&T Corporation. After retiring, Al and Carol moved to the Keowee Key Golf Community in Salem, South Carolina.

Alexander is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Carol Scales Smeaton, and his second wife of five years, Lois Swan Smeaton. He is also predeceased by a daughter Nancy E. Greco (Thomas), and a sister, Dorothy Smeaton. He is survived by his sons, James R. Smeaton (Anne) of Greer, SC and Thomas A. Smeaton (Angela) of Eatontown, NJ, and a daughter Diane Kennedy of Belmar, NJ. Additionally, he is survived by his six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a third expected in February; first cousin, Agnes Shaffery; and Nancy Britton, neighbor and companion.

Alexander served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield and was an active member of the Seneca Presbyterian Church in South Carolina. In 2012, he joined St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Toms River.

Friends and family may gather at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 11 a.m. for a graveside service and internment. Arrangements are being handled by Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. For further information please refer to their website at www.orenderfamilyhome.net.
