Blue Devils Oust Raiders in UCT V-Ball

The 18-5 Westfield High School Blue Devil girls volleyball team defeated the ninth-seeded, 6-12 Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders in two sets, 25-21, 25-19, to advance to the semifinal round of the Union County Tournament to face the fourth-seeded Cranford Cougars in Clark on October 27.

Vicki Morey recorded 12 kills, a block, eight digs and five services for the Blue Devils against the Raiders. Ava Gaspard finished with nine kills, nine digs, a block and a service ace. Audrey Stack had a block and a dig. Sophia Simeone notched a kill and six services with an ace. Lillian Wood had four kills and Annelise Bonn recorded two kills, two blocks, an assist and eight services with an ace.Audrey Hu scooped four digs and added an assist and three services with an ace. Emelia Dengler had eight assists and a kill. Abby Wilson had 16 assists, five digs and six services with an ace.

Raider Isabella Stewart finished with 14 assists, three digs and seven services. Maddie Byrne had five kills and two digs. DJ Ngumah had five kills and two blocks. Brynn Cardenas finished with six kills, eight digs and two services. Sofia Cennamo had seven services with three aces, a kill and a dig. Jacklyn Choi had nine digs and an assist.

Previously, the Raiders ousted the hosting eighth-seeded New Providence Pioneers in two sets, 25-19, 25-21, on October 22. Byrne recorded 10 kills, six digs, an assist and four services. Stewart dished out 14 assists and added three digs and four services with an ace. Ngumah notched five kills and added four blocks, two digs and two services. Cardenas finished with nine kills, seven digs, two assists and two services. Elyse Lamberti had seven assists and two digs. Victoria Hunter had two kills, a block and three services with an ace. Valencia Duru notched a kill. Cennamo had three kills, two digs and a service. Choi had seven digs and an assist.

Ellie Liu finished with six kills, three digs and two services with an ace for the 13-8 Pioneers. Katherine Heitmann had three kills, three digs and three services. Liz Pazinko had two kills, two digs and a service. Sofia Chomiak had six assists, a kill, block, dig and a service. Allison Maisch had six assists and three services with an ace. Haley Kessler had six digs and a service.
