Garwood Declares October SCA Awareness Month

GARWOOD — At Thursday night’s meeting of the Garwood Mayor and Council, Mayor Jen Blumenstock proclaimed that October will be recognized as Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Month.

“Raising awareness about this cause is something that has been very important to me, and I know it’s important to many in our community,” she said, “I will always be proud of Garwood for championing the cause of outdoor AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) and making it a priority to have them in our parks.”

Mayor Blumenstock also thanked the First Aid Squad for their promotion of AEDs and CPR certification. She also gave a shoutout to resident Stephen Greet, son of Planning Board Chair Stephen Greet, who attempted a record-breaking 124-mile run through Central Park to raise awareness and funds to purchase more AED’s.

The Mayor also honored Lucienne Rabin, a First Aid Squad member and CPR Instructor, and Dylan Mason, a teen ambassador of The Aliver Foundation, founded by resident Jill Pall to raise awareness and funds for outdoor AEDs.

“Thank you very much, and hopefully we can see more of you learning to do CPR,” said Mrs. Rabin

Mayor Blumenstock also acknowledged Mr. Mason for his work in the Foundation as a young member of Garwood.

“It’s so wonderful to see young people getting involved in a cause like this,” she said, “It’s really nice to see you volunteering your time like this, not many teenagers do that, so kudos to you.”
