As the noise from the sidelines and stands descended into silence, senior Emma Schwarzenbek stepped up to take the corner with the game on the line. With one breath, Schwarzenbek took the shot, but after a scramble at the goal, she managed to find another gap that sent the ball to the back of the net. The goal that gave the Westfield High School field hockey team a 2-1, overtime victory at last over the Summit Hilltoppers at Gary Kehler Stadium in Westfield on September 22. This win did not come easily for the 3-6 Blue Devils. Westfield was able to maintain possession throughout the game, giving them a one-goal advantage when senior Anna Mangold struck gold late in the third quarter. However, Summit (5-3) pushed harder than ever, scoring with only three minutes left to force overtime.
