FANWOOD — A Fanwood woman tragically lost her life early Friday morning after a fire broke out her in her Kempshall Terrace home. A neighbor who attempted to rescue her from the fire is being treated for serious burns.
According to official reports, the Fanwood and Scotch Plains Fire Departments was dispatched to the property at approximately 1:37 a.m. and arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call.
“Crews initiated an aggressive interior fire attack and conducted a primary search for the reported victim,” The Fanwood Fire Department said via social media Friday. “The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. During the search, one occupant was located and tragically pronounced deceased on scene due to fatal injuries.”
The woman’s name has not yet been released.
The incident is under investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. No injuries to fire personnel were reported in connection with the incident.
