The seventh-seeded Cranford Cougars softball team defeated 10-seeded Payne Tech, 12-0, in four and onehalf innings in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 playoffs in Cranford on May 28. In the quarterfinal round in Summit on May 30, trailing 3-2, the second-seeded Hilltoppers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to nip the Cougars, 4-3.
