Blue Devils, Cougars, ALJ Win; Raiders Edged in UCT Baseball

The second-seeded Westfield baseball Blue Devils swamped 15thseeded Rahway, 17-0 in the first round of the Union County Tournament on May 10. The fifth-seeded Cranford Cougars ousted 12th-seeded New Providence, 8-1, and the ninth-seeded AL Johnson Crusaders ousted eighthseeded Summit, 10-0. The seventhseeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders were stunned by the 10th-seeded Brearley Bears, 3-1.

Blue Devil winning pitcher Logan Revock tossed a one-hitter, walked three and struck out for against Rahway. Jake Alfano went 3-for-4 with a home run, pair of doubles, five RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored. Jordan Walsh went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Braedan Trajkovski walked, was hit twice, scored twice and stole a base. Liam Sullivan doubled, was hit three times, had an RBI and scored three runs. Pete Cabrales had an RBI. Aaron Ives singled, walked and scored twice. Charlie McCormack went 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Anthony Bulger singled, was hit twice, scored twice and had an RBI.Andrew DiGregorio was hit three times, had two RBI and scored.

For Cranford, Brayden Fry whacked two home runs, walked and stole two bases. Mike Tripodi scored twice and swiped a base. Adam Kielczynski singled and scored. Pat Bendert (2 stolen bases) and Tyler Muccogrosso both doubled, scored and had an RBI. Oliver Nelson had an RBI single and stole a base. Tyler Veltre had an RBI single. John Fiore walked twice, scored and had an RBI. Quinn Smith walked twice and had an RBI. Winning pitcher Chris Pereira allowed four hits and struck out seven.

ALJ winning pitcher Nick Donofrio tossed a three-hitter, walked one and struck out three. Brody Gulbin led the 12-5 Crusaders with a double, single, two RBI and two runs scored. Justin Zdeb doubled, singled, scored and had two RBI. Rob Gallagher singled, walked, was hit and scored. Anthony Minniti was hit, singled and scored In the 9-11 Raiders’loss to Brearley, Joe LaRosa went 2-for-4 and Leo Nardi went 1-for-3 and scored. Losing pitcher Alex Bolton singled and was hit. Ian Losardo singled and walked. Brearley pitcher Sean Budis recorded seven strikeouts, hit a batter and walked two.
