John “Jack” Kasich
Obituaries

John “Jack” Kasich

John ‘Jack’ Kasich, 75, Family Man;
Robert Treat Delicatessen Owner

John “Jack” Kasich, a cherished family man, esteemed businessman, and beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 75, in Paramus, New Jersey. Born on May 12, 1949, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late John and Sophia (née Fiorentino) Kasich, Jack’s warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jack spent his formative years in Jersey City before relocating to Clifton after the eighth grade. A proud graduate of Clifton High School in 1967, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Bloomfield College, laying the foundation for a successful career in business. Alongside his brother, Gregory, Jack co-owned the Robert Treat Delicatessen in Westfield, where they built a strong community presence and became a fixture. They owned Robert Treat for over 35 years, from 1978 to 2014. Later, he and Greg expanded their entrepreneurial spirit when they purchased the popular Henry’s Delicatessen in Clifton from Ed Looney. It was a true homecoming, as Henry’s was right around the corner from the Kasich childhood home and where the brothers initially learned the business under Looney’s tutelage. Thanks to Jack and Greg’s efforts, Henry’s Deli remains a Clifton staple and gathering place. The brothers owned Henry’s for nearly two decades, from 1985 until 2003.

Jack’s life was one of devotion and love. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Mary (née Rotondella) Kasich, and a supportive father to his sons, John Kasich, IV, and David Kasich (Monica Bartos). His joy was multiplied with the birth of his grandson, Corrado Ransom Kasich, who brought immense happiness to his later years. Jack was also a caring brother to Gregory Kasich (Kim) and Steven Kasich (Desiree Lobe-Guth), and a considerate sibling to his sister, Carolyn (John) Maroon. His extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews will fondly remember his generous spirit and the special times they shared.

Jack’s interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were passionate. He was an avid reader, always with a book in hand, ready to explore new worlds and ideas. The Jersey Shore held a special place in his heart, particularly Chadwick Beach, where he once had a home and created countless memories with family and friends. His competitive nature found an outlet in skeet shooting and racquetball, activities he not only enjoyed but also excelled at, often sharing his love for the sports with others.

Those who knew Jack would describe him as a man of great generosity, friendliness, and thoughtfulness. He loved learning about the lives of his friends and customers and truly cared for their well-being. He had a natural ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, a trait that extended into his professional life and personal interactions, as well as a wonderful sense of humor. Jack’s legacy is one of kindness, a willingness to help others, and a deep commitment to his family and community. As we bid farewell to John “Jack” Kasich, we celebrate a life well-lived — a life filled with laughter, love, and the joy of giving. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Jack’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, as a beacon of the warmth and light he brought into the world.

Jack is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, and his parents, John and Sophia. He is survived by his loving sons, John and David; his adored grandson, Corrado; his brothers, Gregory and Steven; his sister, Carolyn; and a host of relatives who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives with the same compassion and integrity that he exemplified.

The world is a little less bright without Jack’s presence, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have through simple acts of kindness and a heart full of love. Rest in peace, Jack, knowing that your story is one of a life beautifully lived and a difference truly made.

Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m., at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton, with a service to be held at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community FoodBank of New Jersey, www.cfbnj.org, 31 Evans Terminal, Hillside, N.J. 07205, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Visit www.bizubquinlan.com to leave condolences to the family on the Tribute Wall section of the obituary.
