Dr. Michael Frattarola
Obituaries

Dr. Michael Frattarola

Dr. Michael A. Frattarola,
Longtime Resident of Westfield

Michael A. Frattarola, MD, FACOG, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 4, 1947, in Kearny, New Jersey, Michael was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, and cherished friend. He was a Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude graduate of Rutgers University and went on to earn his medical degree from UMDNJ (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey). While at Rutgers, he was a member of the Glove and Stick fraternity and the biological honor society, Beta Beta Beta.

Michael completed his residency at Martland Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. He earned board certification in obstetrics and gynecology and became a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG).

A highly respected obstetriciangynecologist, Michael dedicated over 50 years to caring for women and families, delivering more than 10,000 babies throughout his remarkable career. He was deeply loved by his patients and colleagues alike, known for his kind and gentle nature, steady presence, and generous heart. He brought compassion, wisdom, and quiet strength to everything he did and left a lasting legacy in the lives of so many. His strong faith was a guiding force in both his personal life and his work.

Michael and Patti lived in Westfield, New Jersey, for 36 years, where they built a life together and raised their daughters, Clare and Amy. His private practice was based in Union County, New Jersey, and he was ranked a Top Doctor of NJ for many years. In 2021, he retired to Beaufort, South Carolina — a place he and Patti quickly came to cherish. Surrounded by natural beauty and a welcoming community, Beaufort became his sanctuary, and he often shared how grateful he was to spend his final years in a place he truly loved. To know Dr. Frattarola was to know true goodness. He was not only an extraordinary physician but also a deeply devoted family man — humble, warm, funny, and full of grace. He truly was the best. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Patricia; his daughters, Clare and Amy; his son-in-law, Derek; and his granddaughter, Cameron. He is also survived by his brother, John, and his wife, Julie Frattarola; his sister, Susan, and her husband, George Truppo; his sisters-in-law, Colleen Coyle and Judith Jacoby; and many loving nieces and nephews: Kimberly, Justin, Daniel, Stephanie, Katie, Kerry, Edward, Ellen, Andrew, Jennifer, Marc, Karl, Veronica and William.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramona and Michael Frattarola, Sr.; his brother-in-law, Edward Jacoby; and his nephew, Christopher Coyle.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, New Jersey, from 1 to 3 p.m.AMass in celebration of Michael’s life will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s honor to the American Cancer Society.

Forever in our hearts.
