New Study Rooms Open At Westfield Library

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Memorial Library Board of Trustees held a ribbon cutting March 26 for the library’s new study rooms, which opened to the public on March 31. Available for free, these study rooms are for individual study, group work, meetings and other uses to support connection, engagement and lifelong learning for all Westfield residents.

“We are excited to open these new study rooms as part of our ongoing commitment to making the Westfield Memorial Library a welcoming and engaging space for all,” said Michelle Habayeb, president of the library’s board of trustees. “These rooms provide much-needed quiet spaces for study, work and collaboration, and they represent an important step toward our larger vision of renovating the library for the future.”

The seven study rooms vary in maximum seating capacity from four to eight individuals and can be used by as few as one person at a time. Patrons may view the availability and room capacity at wmlnj.org/rooms/ and reserve a study room up to two weeks in advance. A valid Westfield Memorial Library card is required to make study-room reservations.

Reservations may be made online, in person, or over the phone. Patrons also may make same-day walk-in reservations if a room is available. Individuals and/or groups are allowed one booking per day. Reservations can be made in 30-minute increments, up to two hours (120 minutes) per day.

“The library receives approximately 100,000 visitors annually, many of them coming to work, study, and meet with others, both in person and at a distance,” said Library Director Allen McGinley. “These new private study rooms, equipped with comfortable seating and workspace, electrical access, robust WiFi and built-in whiteboards, will help to meet the evolving needs of the Westfield community.”

Guidelines for using the library’s meeting rooms and cancellation policies also can be found at wmlnj.org/ rooms/.

To learn more, visit the library’s website, www.wmlnj.org. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street and can be reached at (908) 789-4090.
