Blue Devils Trample Union, 54-20; Stung by Plainfield Cagers, 40-39

No chances were given to the Union Farmers when the Westfield High School girls basketball team swarmed all over them with solid defense and took a 34-6, halftime lead en route to a 54-20 victory in Union on January 21. Next the Blue Devils faced a more difficult challenge in Westfield on January 23 against the 10-7 Plainfield Cardinals and although battling back from a seven-point, halftime deficit to take a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter, a lay-up in the waning seconds of each half earned the visitors a 40-39 victory.
