William Jubb Corbet, Jr.
Obituaries
January 16, 2025
William Jubb Corbet, Jr.

William Jubb Corbet, Jr., Former Westfield Businessman, Councilman

Jubb lived a full life and passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the age of 93. He is survived by his son, Bill Corbet, of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Maggie Corbet, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; their spouses, Kathy Corbet and Lewis Dames; granddaughters, Carolyn Corbet and Emme Corbet; sister, Sue Thomas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; two step-granddaughters, Isabela and Seanna Dames; and 17 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Chetty Corbet; brother, Dick, and cherished wife of 63 years, Joan Kervick Corbet.

Jubb was born October 20, 1931 and raised in Elizabeth, N.J. He was a student at The Pingry School, where he was undefeated captain of the swim team and then active as a trustee of the Alumni Association and recipient of the “Nelson L. Carr” service award. Following his graduation from Lehigh University, Jubb took on the role as an officer of the U.S. Air Force in California and New Mexico.

Jubb and Joan settled in Westfield, N.J., to raise their family and he worked for 48 years as a stockbroker, first with FP Ristine and the successor companies Legg Mason Wood Walker as branch manager for most of the years. A fixture in the Westfield business community, both Jubb and Joan were active in many community organizations, including as a cofounder of Christopher Academy Montessori; a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Westfield, the Westfield United Way, and Holy Redeemer Health Services. Jubb served on the Westfield Town Council from 1984 to 1991. Jubb was present for Maggie’s and Bill’s sports and activities and a presence in the lives of their friends. Jubb expanded his hometowns and community to include Mantoloking, N.J., and Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas, and then Fort Lauderdale, Fla., following retirement. Sailing was huge part of his life, with racing Lightnings on Barnegat Bay followed by cruising in the Chesapeake and Abacos. A life well lived with many stories.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 13, at St. Sebastian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Pingry School, Basking Ridge, N.J., are appreciated.
