GARWOOD — Four candidates, including two incumbents, will be vying to secure two, three-year terms on the Garwood Borough Council next week.
Democrat Sean Keagan Foley, who was elected in 2023 to fill the remaining year of an unexpired term, is running alongside political newcomer Chase Padusniak, one of the founding members of the Garwood Partnership for Arts and Culture.
The Democratic candidates are running on a combined platform of affordability, connection and safety that highlights the need for more beneficial shared-services agreements and promises to create an advisory board of community shareholders like police, school administrators and business owners to help the council build better community relations.
Republican Kimberly Salmon, who was first elected to the council in 2021, says she plans to focus on the borough’s recreation department and responsible development throughout the community.
Ms. Salmon will appear on this year’s ballot alongside Laura Spina Thompson, a lifelong Garwood resident who works as a Critical Care Registered Nurse.
Five candidates — including Board President April Farrell and incumbent Sal Piarulli — will be vying for three, three-year terms on the Garwood Board of Education. Ms. Farrell and Mr. Piarulli will appear on the ballot along with challengers Tracey McCarrick, Michael Sasjack and Vincent Fumero.
