Paul Scarpignato, 94, Longtime Westfield Resident
Paul Scarpignato, 94, a longtime resident of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 22, 2024, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Motta Camastra, Sicily, he was the son of the late Carmello and Nunziata Scarpignato.
He came to the United States as a young man and served his new country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service, he settled in Westfield, where he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. Paul was employed for over 30 years, and never taking a sick day or vacation, he accumulated over three years of extra time. He was an avid reader, enjoyed going for walks and loved tending to his vegetable garden. There was never a birthday or anniversary that he forgot. He was a mild-mannered guy who never wanted to be in the spotlight. He was a loving son, husband, father, Nonno, brother and uncle who is now reunited in heaven with his loved ones. He will be truly missed.
Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his beloved sister and brother-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Pina; his son and daughter- in-law; his cherished granddaughter, and six nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, August 29, at 10 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westfield, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
