AREA – While the world has been watching competitions from the 2024 Paris Olympics, local theaters right here in New Jersey are basking in their own limelight of being recognized for their efforts by the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT). No, they are not gold medals, but the awards for excellence in Community Theater are called Perry Awards. The nominees for these prestigious awards were recently announced and include 12 nods for the Cranford Dramatic Club (CDC) and three to Westfield Community Players (WCP). The collective and individual winners will be announced on Sunday, September 22 at a gala at The Strand Center in Lakewood. Tickets are on sale now through the njact.org website.
DOUBLE RECOGNITION…For her work in Cranford Dramatic Club’s production of Hair, Jannette Fisher has been nominated for two New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT) Perry awards: Outstanding Costume Design (with Lilly Tremblay) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical. Ms. Fisher’s powerful voice opened the show with the famed song “Aquarius.” These nominations are a first-time recognition for her by this state-wide group. The winners will be announced at the annual gala held on Sunday, September 22, at The Strand Theater in Lakewood. For tickets, visit the njact.org website.
