RT Renegades Top Westfield In N. Prov. 11U Baseball, 15-7

Numerous opportunities allowed the Readington-Tewksbury Renegades to take advantage and reap the benefits in an 11U New Providence Green League game against the Westfield White at Gumbert Field 3 in Westfield on July 3. The Renegades unloaded with five runs in the first inning then capped it off with six runs in the fifth inning to secure a 15-7 victory.

The numerous opportunities came in the way of seven walks, two hit batters, wild pitches and errors. The Renegades were able to distribute eight hits at the right time to come up with the victory. Renegade Brendan Schubert led the team with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Max Dustin singled once, walked twice, had an RBI and scored all three times. Joey Prisko had an RBI single, was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Harlan Slawecky walked twice, had an RBI single, stole a base and scored twice. Matthew Mullaney walked twice and scored both times.

Westfield White 11U actually outhit the Renegades, 9-8, and were very aggressive on the base paths to amass 14 stolen bases. Connor Farley went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Benji Sathananthan went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Max Morrissey went 1-for-1, walked once, stole three bases and scored twice. Logan Cortes singled and stole four bases. Robby Davidson singled, stole three bases and scored once. Dean McNanna walked twice, stole a base and scored once.

The Renegades consisted of Noah Lutzky, Slawecky, Henry Winter, Anthony Pietrangelo, Nolan Castellano, Schubert, Brendan Simpson, Mullaney and Dustin and were coached by Anthony Pietrangelo, Dominic Basile and Jim Simpson. Westfield White was coached by Brian Morrissey, Tom Ferrigno, Jeremy Sayles and KR Davidson and consisted of McNanna, Davidson, Caden Sayles, Cortes, Sathananthan, Hudson Ferrigno, Nick Sisto, Morrissey, LukeArlotta, Farley, Ben Ermisch and Peter Denier.

Ferrigno started on the mound for Westfield White and pitched to four batters in the fourth inning before being relieved by McNanna, who finished the game. Ferrigno allowed nine runs on five hits, five walks and two hit batters, while recording one strikeout. McNanna yielded six runs on three hits and two walks.

Winter pitched the first two innings for the Renegades and allowed three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out one batter. Schubert pitched the remaining three innings and permitted four runs, three hits and two walks, while recording three strikeouts.

The Renegades’ five-run first in- ning began with Slawecky drawing a one-out walk, slipping to second on a ball in the dirt and eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Pietrangelo (1-for-3, walk) slashed a single to right-center and Castellano took a fastball to the forearm. Schubert slammed a tworun double to deep center and would also score on a wild pitch. Prisko was hit by a pitch and would score the fifth run when Simpson’s grounder was mishandled by the shortstop.

Westfield White answered with a run in the bottom of the first. McNanna walked and stole second. Davidson chopped a single that escaped the infield and Sayles slapped an RBI single to right-center. The Renegades matched that run in the second. Dustin drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Lutzky ricocheted a single off the pitcher’s glove. When Slawecky laced an RBI single to right to score Dustin, Lutzky also attempted to score but the relay went to first baseman Sayles, who gunned him down at the plate.

After Sisto’s hard liner was grabbed by the shortstop, Westfield White scored twice in the second. Morrissey looped a single into shallow center and stole second base. Arlotta sliced an RBI single to right and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Farley plopped a single over first base. Ermisch tapped a grounder to short that resulted in a throwing error and Arlotta scoring the second run.

Westfield White added another run in the third when Cortes punched an infield single, stole second and third and scored on Sathananthan’s single that deflected off the third baseman’s glove. The Renegades answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 9-4 lead. Mullaney walked and Dustin singled to leftfield. Mullaney then scored on a wild pitch and Dustin would score when Lutzky’s grounder to short was muffed. After Slawecky walked, Lutzky scored on Winter’s ground out to second.

Morrissey drew a one-out walk in the Westfield fourth, stole two bases and scored on Farley’s chopping single into leftfield. But the Renegades went wild with six runs in the fifth and it began with Schubert slamming another double to left and advancing to third on the misdirected throw. Prisko hacked an RBI single that ticked the shortstop’s glove. After a wild pitch, Simpson’s grounder eluded the shortstop. Mullaney walked to load the bases and Dustin walked to bring home Prisko. Lutzky’s ground out to first allowed Simpson to score then Mullaney and Dustin both scored when Slawecky’s grounder got past the shortstop. Winter then made the score 15-5 with an RBI single into right field.

Denier opened the Westfield White fifth inning with a walk. After McNanna grounded out to short, Denier stole third and scored when Davidson’s grounder was bobbled by the second baseman. Davidson scored the final run when Cortes’ grounder to short resulted in a throwing error.
