Kent Place Halts Cougars In UCT Girls Lacrosse

The third-seeded Kent Place Dragons girls lacrosse team eliminated the sixth-seeded Cranford Cougars, 18-3, in the quarterfinals of the Union County Tournament in Summit on May 6. Two days prior, the Cougars defeated the seventh-seeded New Providence Pioneers, 8-4, in the first round.

Against the fearsome 14-2 Dragons, Kate Zambito scored twice and scooped a ground ball. Corey Botsakos scored once. Lexi Kruk scooped three ground balls and Shea Matheson had two assists and two ground balls. Sofia Lijo, Kristina Lowe and Emma Yager had two ground ball each. Goalkeeper Caitlin McDonald recorded nine saves and Ashlyn Quigley made one save.

The “Mighty Quinns” produced most of the damage for the Dragons. Emma Claire Quinn finished with five goals, two assists, 12 draw controls and two ground balls. Caitlyn Quinn finished with five goals, an assist, five draws and a ground ball. Molly Brozowski had three goals. Lilly Gomes contributed two goals and six assists. Savera Rigby had a goal and an assist. Kaitlyn Troiano and Piper Walsh each scored once. Goalie Charlotte Cote made four saves.

Against the Pioneers, Lylah Wilhelm finished with two goals, an assist, five draws and two ground balls. Matheson had a goal, assist, six ground balls and three draw controls. Lijo finished with a goal, assist and three ground balls. Lowe had a goal and a ground ball. Kruk scored once. Yager scooped three ground balls and Quigley recorded five saves.

Pioneer Cara Lawton scored twice and had two draws. Stephanie Hughes finished with a goal, assist and two draw controls. Megan McPoland had a goal, three ground balls and three draws. Goalkeeper Hannah Bastow recorded nine saves.
