Blue Devils Oust Raiders, Bow to Royals in UCT Lax

The fourth-seeded Westfield High School girls lacrosse team ousted the fifth-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders, 18-10, in the quarterfinal round of the Union County Tournament (UCT) in Westfield on May 6. Alice Manzo led the 8-6 Blue Devils with five goals, two assists, six draw controls and three ground balls, while Lucy Mineo stuffed in four goals and added an assist and a ground ball. On May 8, the top-seeded Oak Knoll Royals prevailed over the Blue Devils, 8-5, in the semifinals.

Blue Devil Gillian Cohen had two goals and two assists against the Raiders. Kate Watson had a goal and a ground ball. Abi Mokrzycki finished with a goal and four draw controls. Juliana Molinelli fired in four goals and scooped a pair of ground balls. Lola Geoghan scored once. Maeve Wojcik had eight draw controls and a ground ball. Sara Rooney scooped a pair of ground balls. Maddy Coen had two draw controls and goalkeeper Kaitlynn Czarnecki recorded six saves.

Juliana Doran led the 8-7 Raiders with eight goals, an assist, four draw control and a ground ball. Rachel Levy and Isabel Hoffman each scored once. Mackenzie Harmer had two draw controls and a ground ball. Mia Delaney had two ground balls. Goalkeeper Elissa Steingart (2 round balls) made 10 saves.

The Blue Devils scored all five of their goals in the second quarter to grab a 5-3, halftime lead over the Royals but failed to penetrate the net the rest of the way. Cohen netted two goals and had two ground balls. Molinelli had a goal, assist and a ground ball. Mineo scored once and scooped two ground balls. Manzo finished with a goal, two draws and three ground balls. Mokrzycki had seven draws. Geoghan and Erin Hazard each had a ground ball. Wojcik had a draw control and Czarnecki recorded 10 saves.

Sophia Loschert netted three goals and two ground balls for Oak Knoll. Beatrice Burton finished with two goals, two assists, five draws and a ground ball. Zoe Harmaty scored twice. Carson Didden scored once and had two draws and two ground balls. Lauren Dietrich scored once. Keeper Grace Smith recorded six saves.

On May 4, the Raiders ousted the Governor Livingston Highlanders, 13-3, in the first round Doran flicked in seven goals and added an assist, three draws and a ground ball. Erin Ryan netted three goals and a ground ball. Carina DiLollo finished with two goals, an assist, three draws and a ground ball. Kayla Murray had a goal, assist and three draws. Harmer scooped three ground balls. Steingart recorded six saves.

Kaitlyn Cacicedo had a goal, assist and two draw control for the 8-3 Highlanders. Lauren Ryan had a goal and an assist. Megan Kim notched a goal and added seven draws. Goalkeeper Maria DiPasquale recorded 20 saves.
