SPF Raider Keglers Finish Season With 16-2 Record

ARNOLD, MESSANO, DeROSA LED SCORING

This season, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School bowling team literally “bowled” them over. The Raiders won the Union County Tournament title and dominated the Union County Conference Watchung Division with a 15-1 record en route to a 16-2 overall record.

The Raiders won their first 11 matches by 7-0 shutouts. They then defeated the Cranford Cougars, 5-2, and the Linden Tigers, 5-2. Later, the Raiders also shutout the Union Farmers, 7-0, and Union Catholic, 7-0. In the NJSIAA quarterfinals, the Raiders knocked off the Colonia Patriots before bowing to the Delbarton Green Wave in the semifinal.

Senior Matt Arnold led the Raiders with a 206.73 average and in total pins with 10,750. He had the second highest series at 688 and second highest game at 288. Arnold’s high series came in a win over Westfield and his high game was against Union.Arnold also had the high series of 683 and high game of 234 in a win over the Roselle Park Panthers. Arnold had the high series of 645 against Linden. Against Colonia, Arnold rolled the high average of 238.5.

Senior Lou Messano had the second- highest average of 210.46 and second high pin count at 10,476. He had a high series of 672 (against Cranford) and high game of 265 (against Elizabeth). In a win over Linden, Messano had the high series of 660 and high game of 255.

Senior Mauro DeRosa finished with an average of 197.9 with a pin count of 8,312. He recorded the Raiders’ high game at 289 and highest series at 738. Both came in a win over the Rahway Indians for a 246 average. DeRosa also rolled the high game of 246 against Union.

Junior Nate Leversee finished with a 192.06 average with a high game of 259, high series of 644 and a total pin count of 9,219. His high game was against Linden. Junior Jason Sidito finished with a 187.41 average with a high game of 249, high series of 631 and a total pin count of 8,246. With a few appearances on the alley, sophomore Reid Buehler had a high game of 208 and a high series of 550. Senior Matt Capozzolo rolled several games and finished with a 3,064 pin count. His highest game was 221 and highest series was 555.
