Blue Devil Keith Second in 1600 at MOC

The Westfield High School (WHS) boys winter track team recorded six top-8 performances, while the Blue Devil girls had two top-8 performances and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raider girls had one at the Meet of Champions held at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island on March 3.

Blue Devil senior Avery Keith finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:13.72 and Ryan Daly crossed seventh with a personal best (PB) time of 4:17.97. Alex Valencia finished fifth in the 800 with a PB (No. 2 All-Time WHS) time of 1:54.43 and senior Jimmy Gildea finished 11th at 1:56.85. In the 3,200, Tage Mehta finished sixth at a PB (No. 2 All-Time WHS) time of 9:15.59. Manny Gayanilo crossed ninth in the 400 at 49.76 and Rowan McMahill finished 15th at 50.28. Raider Ian Hopkins finished 11th in the 55-hurdle preliminary.

Christian Buonopane (PB 2:03.23), Eamon Mason (PB 1:59.27), Graham Korins (2:01.64) and James Hamilton (PB 2:01.49) finished sixth in the 4×800 at 8:05.02. McMahill at 51.89, Daly at PB 51.17, Gildea at PB 51.08 and Gayanilo at PB 49.21 (No. 2All-Time WHS) finished eighth in the 4×400 at 3:23.33 (No. 2 All-Time WHS). Cranford Cougar Ben Fossella placed 16th in the shot put with a shove of 50-0.25.

For the girls, Raider Delaney Fraley took seventh in the 55 dash with a time of 7.28, followed by Blue Devil Sean O’Brien at 7.3. Blue Devil Gabby Demeter placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 5-2. Darcy Scheiner finished 13th in the 200 at 25.42 and Raider Sarah Sicoli tied for 11th in the pole vault at 10-0.
