Library Kicks Off Series Of Virtual Author Talks

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Memorial Library has announced the launch of a new virtual author talk series featuring bestselling, awardwinning and highly-acclaimed authors from around the world. These writers and thought leaders will cover a wide range of fiction and nonfiction genres.

“Hearing an author speak about a book that they poured their heart and soul into is such a thrill,” said Library Director Allen McGinley. “But there are many obstacles to in-person author talks, including cost, travel, author availability, scheduling conflicts and more.

“So I’m delighted that we have found a cost-effective way to bring best-selling and award-winning authors to Westfield residents on a regular basis through this new virtual platform,” Mr. McGinley added.

The free, virtual series takes place two to three times a month and includes the opportunity to ask the author questions. Upcoming author talks include: “Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity: An Author Talk with Kim Scott” will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at 2 p.m. Ms. Scott is the New York Times bestselling author of “Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity” and “Radical Respect: How to Work Together Better.”

“The Power of Friendships with NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg,” featuring bestselling author Nina Totenberg, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, at 4 p.m.

“20 Years of Dragon-Riding in YA Fantasy with International Bestselling Author Christopher Paolini” is set for Thursday, March 14, at 4 p.m. Mr. Paolini is the international bestselling author of “Eragon,” “Eldest,” “Brisingr” and “Inheritance.”

In addition to these live virtual author talks, Westfield residents will have access to the full catalog of previous recordings.

Virtual author talks are made possible by a partnership between the Westfield Memorial Library and Library Speakers Consortium. All events are free and open to the public. For more information or to register for the author talks, visit the library’s website, wmlnj.org, and check the calendar for the dates, or call (908) 789-4090.

On the website, interested persons also can learn more about library programs and services or sign up for a library card. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
