Blue Devils Glide By Raiders In Girls Swim Rivalry, 114-56

The Westfield High School girls swim team was business as usual when it hosted the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders at Wallace Pool on December 20. The 3-0 Blue Devils took first in six of the eight individual events and took first in the opening 200medley relay and the final 400freestyle relay events to secure a 11456 victory.

Raider Billie Sherratt touched first in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:57.75, followed by Blue Devils Brooke McAndrew at 1:58.79, Mina Pektas at 2:05.14 and Cecelia Wiggins at 2:08.27. Sherratt also took first in the 500-free at 5:34.86, followed by Blue Devils Anna Victorino at 5:48.06, Wiggins at 5:49.25 and Sophia Fussman at 5:58.47. The other event won by the Raiders was the 200-free relay when Keira St. John, Sherratt, Shae Trenery and Tessa DeGennaro touched the wall at 1:46.27, followed by Blue Devils Charlotte Lehman, Keri Kapuscinski, Emily Kapuscinski and McAndrew at 1:48.45, and Hailey Walker, Pektas, Ava Contract and Emily Constable at 1:48.73.

Blue Devils Jane Kavanagh, Constable, Emily Kapuscinski and Lehman took first in the 200-medley relay in 1:51.23, followed by Isabelle Giaccobe, Jacqueline Moser, Clare Logan and Contract at 1:55.73. Raiders Sherratt, DeGennaro, St. John and Trenery finished third at 1:56.23. Pektas, Contract, McAndrew and Logan won the 400-free relay in 3:46.57, followed by Lehman, Giaccobe, Wiggins and Kavanagh at 3:56.33. Raiders EmmaAmorin-Viera, Carolyn Joe, Colleen Gillen and Hannah Alber finished third at 4:16.58.

Constable finished first in the 200Individual Medley at 2:08.51, followed by Emily Kapuscinski at 2:20.29, Trenery at 2:24.88 and Moser at 2:30.91. Constable also took first in the 100-breaststroke at 1:03.1, followed by DeGennaro at 1:13.41, Moser at 1:14.96 and St. John at 1:18.02. Logan took top honors in the 50-free with a time of 23.85, followed by Kavanagh at 24.48, DeGennaro at 26.54 and Contract at 27.03. Logan took the top spot in the 100-backstroke at 54.58, followed by Giaccobe at 1:07.26 and Raider Sophie Isleta at 1:07.77.

Emily Kapuscinski finished first in the 100-butterfly at 1:01.67, followed by St. John at 1:03.73, Pektas at 1:04.3 and Carolyn Joe at 1:07.4. Kavanagh won the 100-free in 52.51, followed by McAndrew at 55.63, Trenery at 56.27 and Giaccobe at 58.92.

The Blue Devils will start off the new year by hosting the Oak Knoll Royals on Thursday, January 4, at 2:30 p.m. then on Friday, January 5, also at 2:30 p.m. they will have another showdown with the Summit Hilltoppers at Wallace Pool. The Raiders were to face the Summit Hilltoppers on January 3.
