Blue Devil Swim Boys Record Clean Sweep of Raider Boys

WF’S PIERCE, SWENSON WINNERS IN FOUR EVENTS

Strength and depth was displayed by the home team during the annual rivalry between the Westfield High School Blue Devil swim boys and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders at Wallace Pool in Westfield on December 20. The Blue Devil boys took first in every event, including taking second in all three relays, and swept 1-23 in two individual events to emerge with a convincing, 128.5-41.5, triumph.

Blue Devils Danny Pierce and Logan Swenson each were involved in four first places. Pierce, Dylan Lagrimas, Swenson and Dan McGann took first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:38.79, followed by teammates Dylan Altman, Hudson Wilcomes, Benedict Nematadzira and Owen Waibel in 1:41.09, while Raiders Harrison McClure, Aaron Frank, Kyle Karyczak and Dylan Condell finished a very close third at 1:41.3.

Swenson, McGann, Charlie Jeckell and Altman took first in the 200-free relay at 1:32.78, followed by Lagrimas, Nematadzira, Cole Sharkey and Waibel at 1:34.81, while Raiders Matt Iannotta, Condell, Eryn Gulbin and Ryan Scarpa finished third at 1:36.09. Pierce, Sharkey, Jeckell and Mike Fisher claimed first in the 400free relay at 3:24.17, followed by Altman, Artem Dobrovolskyi, Wilcomes and Wes Young at 3:32.25, while Raiders McClure, Karyczak, Iannotta and Frank finished third at 3:35.66.

Pierce also seized first in the 200Individual Medley with a time of 2:01.78, followed by Wilcomes at 2:06.64, Karyczak at 2:09.58 and Blue Devil Ben Lane at 2:17.37. Pierce took first in the 100-free at 48.95, followed by McClure at 51.29, McGann at 51.59 andAltman at 51.83. Swenson led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50free at 22.56, followed by Lagrimas at 23.35 and McGann at 23.42, while Condell finished fourth at 23.5. Swenson won the 100-butterfly in 55.77, followed by Karyczak at 56.88, Iannotta at 57.08 and Blue Devil Flynn Martin at 58.34.

Fisher led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100backstroke with a time of 56.38, followed by Wilcomes at 58.67 and Lane at 1:01.44, while Raider Iannotta took fourth at 1:03.14. Fisher also won the 200-free at 1:47.67, which followed in a tie with Sharkey and McClure both at 1:49.13, while Jeckell touched fourth at 1:52.25. Sharkey at 4:58.58 and Young at 5:04.58 took 1-2 in the 500-free, while Frank took third at 5:07.8 and Dobrovolskyi at 5:07.99. Lagrimas won the 100-breaststroke at 1:00.82, followed by Frank at 1:06.85 and Blue Devils Alejandro Villar at 1:07.82 and Clark Seeder at 1:11.76.

The Blue Devils will entertain the Oratory Prep Rams on Thursday, January 4, at 2:30 p.m. then the next day they will host the Summit Hilltoppers at the same time. The Raider boys will host Summit on January 3.
