Cannabis: A Community Conversation, Thursday, December 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Westfield Memorial Library. The Cannabis Community Conversation program is sponsored by Elucidation Strategies, a New Jersey communications agency that focuses on cannabis education and messaging. Learn more about the unique properties of this controversial herb, by understanding major historical events, public policy and public opinion, and the messaging surrounding marijuana over the last century to gain insight about the continued federal prohibition, despite state-by-state legalization. Register at https:// events.wmlnj.org/event/ 10604694 Book Discussion, Thursday, December 7 at 2 p.m. The library and members of Lifelong Westfield will partner for a book discussion of “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi. The discussion will be held in the library’s Meeting Room, and all are welcome; there is no need to register. Borrow a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk. No library card needed. “Homegoing” is a New York Times best seller that begins with the story of two half-sisters, separated by forces beyond their control: one sold into slavery, the other married to a British slaver.

Fundamentals of Tai Chi, Saturday, December 9. Gang Huang teaches Tai Chi, an ancient practice originated in China, is proven to boost both mental and physical health, and it’s often referred as “Meditation in Motion”. In this session, Dr. Gang Huang will lead a hands-on session to work on Tai Chi fundamentals such as joints health, standing meditation, weight shifting and balance, and Tai Chi walking at the Westfield Memorial Library.

Winter Coat Drive, Donate your gently used or new coats until Tuesday, December 12. Please bring coats to the Mountainside Library, 1 Constitution Plaza. Coats will be delivered to Crescent Ave Presbyterian Church, Plainfield (Valarie’s Soup Kitchen) by the Mountainside Rotary Club. Chanukah Lego Night, Thursday, December 14. Temple Sholom’s annual Chanukah Lego Night showcases one of the largest collections of Legos in Scotch Plains! Participants are welcome to build as many Lego creations as their hearts desire, while reveling in dreidel games, Chanukah music, lighting the menorah, and getting to know the Sholom family! Holiday Concert, Friday, December 15, 7: 30 p.m. Westfield Community Concert Band presents its 33rd Annual Holiday Concert in the Edison Intermediate School Auditorium, 800 Rahway Avenue, Westfield. Free admission to the public.

Christmas Tree Pick-Up Fundraiser, Westfield High School Band and Choir will once again be holding its popular Christmas tree pick-up fundraiser. Proceeds will go directly towards supporting meaningful musical experiences for band and choir students at Westfield High School. The pick-up is scheduled for Sunday, January 7, 2024. High school music students will collect trees curbside and deliver them to the conservation center to be recycled. This service is available to Westfield residents at $20 per tree. Additional donations are greatly appreciated For more information and how to register visit www.westfieldxmastree.com. The deadline to register is Friday, December 29.
