Scutari, Bramnick Re-Elected; County Dems Hold Control

AREA — New Jersey Democrats managed to maintain control of their legislative majorities on Tuesday despite tight margins in certain districts.

“Thisisasignificantaccomplishment forDemocratswhoareovercomingtough political challenges with hard work and effective campaigns,” said Senate President Nick Scutari, who won his bid for reelection in District 22 against Republican challengerWilliams Michelson by approximately 10,800 votes.

IncumbentcandidateslikeMr.Scutari did well overall in Union County despite off-season voter turnouts.

Senator Jon Bramnick (R) was reelected to represent District 21 (which also includes parts of Morris and Somerset Counties) on Tuesday, securing 33,051 votes to Democrat Matt Marino’s 27,579.

“Voters in the 21st District have sent a loud and clear message: it’s time to end the extreme political rhetoric and instead support reasonable Republicans who will tackle the urgent issues of affordability, fighting tax hikes and reducing crime,” Senator Bramnick said. “Our message can resonate in every corner of New Jersey — that voters are tired of the partisan games and are ready for balance in government. We will take the message from our district across the state in the coming months to ensure Republicans begin to win again in every community, both in 2024 and 2025.”

IncumbentAssemblywomen Nancy Muñoz (R-Summit) and Michele Matsikoudis (R-New Providence) also won new terms in the 21st District, albeit by slimmer margins. Ms. Muñoz finished out the evening with 31,835 votes, while Ms. Matsikoudis earned 31,335. Sheriff Peter Corvelli (D) also won re-election against Republican challenger Gerardo Napolitano, securing 50,366 votes to Mr. Napolitano’s 31,334.
