We learned about the Edison field plan over two years ago and have passionately presented arguments against artificial turf and lights. Much research has been done and hundreds of presentations have been made to the town council, board of education and recreation commission. Experts, in various scientific subjects, have stated these artificial fields are very dangerous due to their toxicity and increases in non-contact injuries. Chemicals causing cancer, lung ailments, nerve damage, endocrine disorders, and other diseases are in the materials used to make up these artificial fields. The hardness and consistency of these artificial surfaces cause more skin, knee, ankle and foot injuries than natural grass. Is this what we want for our students and other users of the field? Absolutely not.
