Elmer ‘Pete’ Terry

Elmer “Pete” Terry, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at JFK Medical Center. Born in Plainfield, he was a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains.

Pete graduated from Scotch Plains High School in 1954 and later received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Kean College.

Pete was employed as a plumber for his entire adult life and retired from Firmenich SA as Vice President of Construction.

He was an avid historian and had a vast knowledge of the history of Scotch Plains. The Terry family settled in Scotch Plains in 1759. He was a member of the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood; SAR (Sons of the American Revolution); American Legion Post 209; and a former member of the Plainfield Pigeon Club and the Plainfield Elks.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Glore Terry; his sons, Curt and Peter; and his brother, Jim. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Mary, and his brother, Herbert.

Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, on Sunday, September 10, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday, September 11, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion, Post 209, ParkAvenue, Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076.
