Center for Hope – Providing Care for Over 50 Years

Center for Hope – Providing Care for Over 50 Years

Over the past 20 years, The Westfield Foundation (TWF) has supported The Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care (a nonprofit hospice serving patients both in the community and in two state-of-the art hospice facilities in Scotch Plains and Elizabeth) with over $100,000 in grants.

“The Foundation is honored to play a role in the special work done at The Center for Hope. The support they provide within our community to patients and their families at a deeply vulnerable time is a gift. Being able to provide essential equipment or upgrade their facilities is at the true core of the mission of The Westfield Foundation,” TWF Executive Director Katie Darcy said.

Most recently, through grants from TWF’s unrestricted fund and the Irna Wagner and Lydia Hoffart Fund, which was established in 2011 and specifically supports organizations that service senior citizens the Westfield Foundation funded the Installation of High-Flow Oxygen in 23 Patient Suites. High-flow oxygen therapy is a critical need for those in severe respiratory distress. For patients at the end of life, this restricts their ability to leave the hospital for a hospice setting where they can enjoy a better quality of life, focused on their care and comfort. Thanks to the Westfield Foundation and other community donors, the Center for Hope will soon be able to offer this essential service to patients in our Scotch Plains facility, enabling more patients to spend more days in a home-like setting dedicated to comfort care.

“We are most thankful to receive these generous grants, which most recently, will help bring high-flow oxygen therapy to our patients in critical need,” Center for Hope President Frank Brady said.

Another grant provided for the renovation of the common areas of Peggy’s House, the Center’s Scotch Plains residence. These spaces have multiple uses for patients and families: to enjoy holidays, special occasions, entertainment, activities, or even a quiet place to sit and enjoy the company of family and friends.

“As an independent, nonprofit, community-based organization, the Center for Hope is honored to have partners in the community, like the Westfield Foundation, who share in our mission of helping those in our community,” said Mr. Brady.
